Harapan Youth demands BN ministers, deputies quit over PN alliance

N SEMBILAN POLLS | Pakatan Harapan Youth has called on all BN ministers and deputy ministers to quit their posts after the latter coalition decided to partner with Perikatan Nasional in the Negeri Sembilan state election.

In a statement, they said this showed that BN was ungrateful for the trust and positions that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim bestowed upon them in the coalition government.

They cited BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s remarks yesterday that the Negeri Sembilan pact was a test of Malay unity for future cooperation in the 16th general election.

“Unabashed greed has become the norm. Such statements clearly show that BN does not appreciate its partnership with Harapan in the coalition government, despite holding the position of deputy prime minister, several minister posts, and other important positions,” said Harapan Youth.

They added that BN had also been given positions in the Selangor and Penang state governments despite Harapan holding the states securely for almost two decades.

The statement was signed by Amanah Youth vice-chief Ammar Attan, Amanah Young Women communications chief Syazana Nasir, DAP Youth publicity chief Ho Chi Yang, and PKR Youth information chief Danish Hairudin.

BN and PN - sans Bersatu - have divided the 36 seats in Negeri Sembilan between them to avoid clashes with each other, and focused on defeating Harapan.

Their combined efforts could lead to Harapan losing control of the state - which it captured in 2018.

Despite this, they are expected to continue being part of the federal government - at least for now, despite Zahid publicly expressing hope for a new realignment in the next election.

However, the Harapan Youth quartet argued that BN’s resignation from government posts is needed to avoid public confusion about BN’s political position.

They argued this can also avoid any attempts to destabilise the government, allowing the Anwar administration to continue focusing on the people and the economy.
