Perlis PAS Youth calls for firm action against MB over 'injustice' towards reps

PAS MUKTAMAR | Perlis PAS Youth has urged the party and Perikatan Nasional's top leadership to consider "firm action" against Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah.

Accusing Abu Bakar (above) of increasingly tarnishing PN and PAS' image in the state, delegate Ali Na'imi Ahmad Azizi highlighted that the state is governed by the coalition.

However, he claimed PAS assemblypersons were treated like opposition representatives, while action was also taken against several political appointees from PAS.

“We, Perlis PAS Youth, today request the leadership of PAS and PN to consider harsh action against the Perlis menteri besar.

"The state government is also seen taking arbitrary action against political appointees from among our PAS members, such as councillors,” he said when debating the PAS Youth chief's policy speech at the party’s muktamar in Kota Bharu today.

However, he did not provide examples of instances or events where the alleged treatment occurred.

Abu Bakar, who is also Perlis Bersatu chief, was sworn in as the Perlis menteri besar on Dec 28, with the Kuala Perlis assemblyperson replacing PAS’ Shukri Ramli, who resigned due to health reasons.

Shukri’s resignation came amid an attempted coup involving Bersatu and three PAS assemblypersons, who have since had their party memberships terminated while their seats in the Perlis legislature were vacated.

Unity efforts

Commenting on the unity efforts championed by PAS, Ali said the real challenge of the agenda was not merely achieving success, but ensuring that unity was maintained once success was within reach.

“When we have not yet succeeded, people unite easily behind a goal. We are willing to suffer together, sacrifice time together, and face opposition together.

“But when God starts giving success, a much more subtle test arrives in the form of positions, status, influence, honour, and recognition,” he said.

He warned that the scramble for positions and influence could damage relations among members if not controlled with morality and discipline.

“Do not let us lose friends because of positions, do not let us lose manners because of disappointment, and do not let us start instigating conflict because our views were not accepted,” he said.

He added that the experience of Perlis PAS Youth should be taken as a lesson and not a platform to expose anyone's faults.

He noted that leaders were not infallible and criticism was still necessary, but differences of opinion had to be conveyed with manners, discipline, and order within an organised movement.
