MIC has requested the Malaysian government to extend all assistance to K Sivakumaran, the husband of Hema Kassipillay, the Malaysian woman who died in the Mumbai terrorist attack, to bring back her remains to Malaysia.

samy vellu 010307 MIC president S Samy Vellu, in expressing his shock and disbelief over Hema's death, said the Malaysian High Commission in India should immediately seek for the release of her body since it was reported that a post-mortem has already been conducted on her body.

“We feel sad and enraged over the death of Hema and almost 200 other people in this barbaric and unthinkable act of terror,” he told Bernama today.

Died of smoke inhalation

Hema, 51, who had been reported missing since the terror attacks in Mumbai, the financial city of India last Wednesday, was found dead in her room at the Taj Mahal Hotel where she stayed.

The burnt and decomposed body was found in Room 637 on the 6th floor, which was burned down by the terrorists when they seized the hotel on Wednesday evening.

Hema, who was from Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, is believed to have died of smoke inhalation. A post mortem conducted at Sir Jamshedji Jeejibhai Hospital found no injuries on the body caused by gunshots.

Samy Vellu condemned the terrorist attack on the innocent people and was confident that the Indian government would bring to justice the people behind the terrorist act.

Samy Vellu and Human Resources Minister and MIC secretary-general Dr S.Subramaniam extended their condolences to Sivakumaran.

"Our prayers are with Hema and the others who died in the tragedy," Subramaniam said.
