'Hudud' issue only theoretical

vox populi big thumbnail ‘It has been used by MCA to attempt to frighten the Chinese back to BN. But too bad for MCA, the Chinese seem to have lost their fear of PAS and hudud.’

On Chinese voters 'unperturbed' by hudud

Kenny Gan: The hudud issue has often been used by BN to try to split Pakatan Rakyat.

There is a pattern of PAS leaders being goaded on hudud by reporters aligned to BN newspapers and their comments blown up in the mainstream media.

As an Islamic party, PAS can only reply that they will implement hudud.

But the important thing is that they do not try to ram the other component parties to accept hudud such as making hudud acceptance a condition for their membership in PR.

Although hudud is the PAS position, possible implementation is far from reality.

We all know that the federal constitution must be amended to implement hudud. This requires a two-thirds majority in parliament.

Even if PR wins power, they may not get a two-thirds majority.

Even if they win a two-thirds majority, all parties and all MPs in the coalition must support it for any successful hudud law implementation - which is highly unlikely.

As it stands, the hudud issue is only theoretical but it has been used by MCA to attempt to frighten the Chinese back to BN.

But too bad for MCA, the Chinese seem to have lost their fear of PAS and hudud. The old game of creating racial fear, mistrust and suspicion is getting less and less effective.

On Ezam shows letter, Anwar says 'so what?'

Kiv T: Its really unfortunate for this untrustworthy Ezam. He really thought that he can please Umno by coming out with all this ‘confidential’ letter that he was trusted with.

What will really happen now is that surely no one in Umno will ever trust him again!

What happens if he turns his back on Umno and reveals all their dirty linen?

He is really silly to have pulled such a stunt especially when the letter does not contain anything bad.

So what if Anwar is trying to make peace with the boss? Nothing wrong at all. Ezam is history in Malaysian politics.

On MIER slashes 2009 growth rate, says recession looms

BB: I tend to agree with the opinion regarding the stock market. There has been rally in the stock market beginning from last Christmas till now, in tandem with the surge in the regional markets.

However the impressive gain is only confined to certain stocks, especially those closely related to the government.

The local market has been very well-supported by certain funds despite the very sharp correction in the world markets for the past one week, very likely under the instructions of the very powerful people.

Certain parties have been using the rally to raise fund for the KT by election . But mind you, these are all taxpayers’ money.

What's going to happen after the by-election today? Is stock market going to play catch-up with regional markets next week by having a massive fall?

Is the stock market calamity that happened last march repeating itself if BN loses the by-election?

This is indeed a major issue to us, the taxpayers as I’m sure billions of our savings have been used in this artificial rally and will be wasted if stock market falls sharply next week and in the months to come.

On Safety of Labu LCCT questioned

Tommy Ng: There is so much hoo-ha over the proposed LCCT that we are missing something very important. This concerns the aviation industry and its future.

So what does our transport minister have to say about it? There is nary a squeak from him and his silence is deafening.

I find all the negative remarks about Tony Fernandes disturbing, especially damning racist epithets hurled at him in some blogsites.

One wonders if the current anti-AirAsia mood is some insidious racist conspiracy to derail an upstart non-bumiputera business leader?

First of all, I am against the Labu airport idea and my reasons are the same as many people. But to personally disparage Fernandes and what he has done with AirAsia smacks of plain jealousy and even racism.

He has built an international brand that has made Malaysia proud. He has made air travel affordable for many people.

He has not cheated anyone. Without AirAsia and their competition to MAS, we would not be enjoying low fares from MAS now.

I can only say that there seems to be an insidious conspiracy to bring down Airasia and Fernandes when they have brought so many positives to Malaysia.

Some portion of society is just plain incensed that someone else can make it and they can't, while some are just racist.

The real issue here is why the transport minister can't mediate between AirAsia and the dispute with Malaysian Airports Holdings Bhd.

MAHB is not listening to AirAsia and AirAsia needs the improved infrastructure within a certain deadline to accomodate their fast-growing fleet of planes and passengers.

It is obvious to me that MAHB is the bully here with its monopoly of airports in Malaysia.

Will our transport minister have the clout to resolve this or will he bow to certain warlords behind the scenes like I suspect?
