Would you like being called 'celaka Singh'?

The Sikh community would definitely be slighted if Umno Youth was to call veteran DAP stalwart Karpal Singh a ' celaka (damn) Singh'.

Similarly, argued Umno Youth exco member Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the Malays were hurt when the opposition leader referred to Umno Youth as ' celaka '.

"If we were to curse Karpal by saying ' celaka Singh', it would surely anger the Sikh community as it had hurt the Malays as Umno Youth is representing the Malays," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .

Reezal Merican said Karpal should not hide behind the law and parliamentary immunity to accuse and denigrate Umno Youth.

On Wednesday, Karpal had used the derogatory term in Parliament when he accused Umno Youth of being responsible for the death threats and bullets he received via mail last week.

The DAP chairperson has been in the limelight since threatening to sue Perak ruler Sultan Azlan Shah over the political crisis in the state.

Setting a bad example

Apart from being accused of disrespecting the Malay rulers, more than a hundred police reports were also lodged against the renowned senior lawyer.

However, Karpal has remained defiant and even likened himself to the recent Bollywood blockbuster, ' Singh is Kinng '.

Yesterday, the wheelchair-bound veteran politician was mobbed by a group of angry Umno Youth supporters at the Parliament lobby.

Meanwhile, former Selangor menteri besar and Umno Youth chief aspirant Dr Mohd Khir Toyo said Umno Youth was disappointed with Karpal's outlandish remarks and as a veteran politician he should show good examples to the younger generation.

"Ironically, off late Karpal has been showing bad examples which could inflame anger of the people," he said.

Karpal had also come under fire from two other Umno Youth chief aspirants, Khairy Jamaluddin and Mukhriz Mahathir, who among others labelled the DAP leader as an "arrogant parliamentarian who thinks he knows everything."
