Cops: No links between bullets and Umno Youth
Investigations have not revealed any links between Umno Youth and the live bullets received by DAP stalwart Karpal Singh, said Penang police chief Ayub Yaakub today.
Investigations have not revealed any links between Umno Youth and the live bullets received by DAP stalwart Karpal Singh, said Penang police chief Ayub Yaakub today.
"We have investigated his (Karpal's) allegation. But until now, there is no evidence to connect Umno Youth with the case.
"The police are also waiting for him to give a statement regarding his allegation," he was quoted as saying by
Bernama
.
On Feb 20, Karpal received a death threat and the bullets via mail at his house in Penang. This was related to the veteran politician's threat to sue the Perak Sultan over the political turmoil in the state.
In the Dewan Rakyat five days later, the Bukit Gelugor MP blamed Umno Youth, whom he described as ' celaka ' (damn), for the incident.
This led to a group of angry Umno Youth members mobbing the wheelchair-bound politician at the Parliament lobby to demand an apology.
'Repeat it outside if you dare'
Meanwhile, Ayub said if Karpal's allegation is true, then he must furnish proof and have his statement recorded to facilitate investigations.
"Numerous statements have appeared in the media regarding this case. But until now, we do not know the truth.
"If it (the allegation) is true, come forward, otherwise stop making baseless allegations," he added.
In a related development, Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) today challenged Karpal not to use parliamentary immunity as a shield and repeat the remarks he made about Umno
Youth outside the Dewan Rakyat.
He said if Karpal was "sincere and had the guts", the latter should take up his challenge.
Bung also moved a motion to have the matter discussed in the Dewan but deputy speaker Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar denied it saying a parliamentary committee was looking into it and did not want to pre-empt anything.
