PN plays non-Malays 'left out' card

Malacca Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen claims non-Malays, especially the Chinese, may not have a representative in the next state government if they don't vote for Gerakan.

He said this would be a loss to the non-Malay community.

It's a line from former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak's playbook in 2018, who said the Chinese would be unrepresented if they voted against MCA and Gerakan in favour of DAP and Pakatan Harapan.

In Rafiq's retelling, Malays have lost faith in Harapan, making it impossible for the latter to win the state election.

Gerakan, which is part of the PN coalition, is contesting in five seats, of which four are considered DAP safe seats. Gerakan failed to win any seats in Malacca in 2018.

Ginie rejects Azmin's sympathy wish

PKR's Ginie Lim rejected sympathy wishes from Azmin Ali over her party's decision not to field her in the Malacca state election.

Lim was previously seen to be aligned to Azmin's "cartel" in PKR, but had not defected when the latter quit and joined Perikatan Nasional.

Azmin claimed that she was sidelined for her association with him.

However, the 40-year-old said despite not being picked to defend her Machap Jaya seat, remained committed to Pakatan Harapan's agenda.

She also skewered Azmin for bowing to "racist parties and corruptors".

December 'wave' and more boosters

A doctor attached to the Sungai Buloh Hospital has warned that a new wave of Covid-19 infections may be hitting in December.

Dr Azfar Kamal said there has been a rise in Category 4 and 5 patients at the hospital.

He urged Malaysians to adhere to social distancing and hygiene measures to avoid spreading the virus.

The impending rise in cases comes as the government pushes to get more Malaysians to opt for booster vaccines.

The government will allow Sinovac and Astrazeneca vaccines to be used as a third dose, after plans to use only Pfizer as a booster met resistance from those hesitant to mix-and-match vaccines.
