Vernacular schools
Yet another legal bid to have vernacular schools declared unconstitutional has been defeated.
The Kota Bharu High Court dismissed a lawsuit by Ikatan Guru-Guru Muslimin Malaysia (I-Guru) seeking to declare vernacular schools unconstitutional in Malaysia.
The court ruled that the existence of vernacular schools must be considered in the historical context where the country's founding fathers intended to guarantee the use of the mother tongue.
In December last year, the Kuala Lumpur High Court also ruled that vernacular schools are constitutional.
The challengers in both cases are planning to appeal to the Court of Appeal.
