Trump to pump RTM with Hollywood?
RTM and other public broadcasters may soon be airing more Hollywood shows and movies, including on prime time.
The Malaysia-US trade agreement will require Putrajaya to lift an 80 percent local content rule for broadcast TV, as well as any time restrictions.
The MCMC clarified on Saturday that there was no such requirement for private stations under the Communications and Multimedia Act.
However, the regulator glossed over the fact that the trade agreement requirements would also apply to public broadcasters like RTM.
In 2009, a deputy communications minister told the Senate that RTM does have an 80 percent content rule.
Further, at that time, government policy mandated that private TV stations air 60 percent Malay content, and 24 percent local non-Malay content.

Zayn Rayyan's mum sent to jail
Almost two years after six-year-old Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin was killed, his mother has been found guilty of negligence, which led to his demise.
The Sessions Court sentenced Ismanira Abdul Manaf to five years in prison, and rejected a request to delay the sentence pending appeal.
Zayn's father Zaim Ikhwan Zahari - who was acquitted of a similar charge - lashed out after the verdict, shouting "all will be damned".
However, one question remains: Who strangled Zayn to death? His parents' lawyers insist the real killer is out there and police have failed to catch them.

Nga argues with the press
Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming got into a heated standoff with the media after he was accused of intimidating an Utusan Malaysia journalist.
The journalist had questioned why the theme for a new urban lighting project in Bukit Bintang was in English, to which Nga replied that it was aimed at tourists.
However, the minister then threatened to call the journalist's editor to complain about the question.
While he initially dug his heels in, Nga eventually offered an apology.
