DAP gears for referendum on Madani
DAP will hold a special congress on July 12, in which its delegates will determine whether its officeholders should step down from all government positions.
More than 4,000 central delegates are expected to take part in the vote, making it the first occasion on which such a consequential political question has been decided by the party’s top deliberative assembly rather than solely by its central executive committee (CEC).
DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke said if the party chooses to remain in the government, it must bear the responsibility and pressure of governing, and cannot govern while simultaneously opposing the government.
But if they decide that the party should exit the government, DAP will continue to prop up Anwar Ibrahim as prime minister.
Before the special congress, DAP will also be carrying out three rounds of public opinion polls as part of measures to better understand the public’s perception of the government’s performance and the party’s role in governance.

PAS succeeds, Samsuri new PN chief
Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar has been appointed as the new Perikatan Nasional chairperson, despite earlier attempts by other component parties to foil the PAS vice-president’s ascension.
Those aligned to former PN chief Muhyiddin Yassin had previously tried to claim that only a party president can lead the coalition. However, such a rule doesn’t exist in PN’s constitution.
Samsuri was the sole nominee put up for consideration despite Malaysian Indian People's Party (MIPP) president P Punithan saying his party would nominate a candidate for PN chief as well.
Meanwhile, PAS will also be taking over the opposition leader post after the office holder, Hamzah Zainudin, was axed from Bersatu.
However, a nominee for opposition leader hasn’t been decided yet.

Rafizi in MACC crosshairs
Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli has two separate MACC investigations against him.
The first involves a government deal with British semiconductor giant Arm Holdings, where he is accused of rushing through an agreement that allegedly cost RM1.1 billion.
The second allegation involves a large solar energy project by UEM Lestra, where he is accused of steering a contract worth RM2.5 billion toward a company with ties to him.
He has denied wrongdoing, claiming the probes were instead meant to intimidate him after he called for MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki’s suspension.
He also said he would sue the government if the investigations don’t lead to charges.
Meanwhile, Rafizi’s former boss Anwar Ibrahim stressed that due process be upheld and for the public not to pass judgment.
