When chieftains shake the throne
Over the past 48 hours, Negeri Sembilan’s usually low-profile territorial chieftains have burst into the spotlight.
The four undang stunned the nation by invoking their constitutional powers to oust state ruler Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir and install Tunku Nadzaruddin Tuanku Ja’afar in his place.
For a deeper dive into what ignited the crisis, read our KiniGuide - Royal rumble: N Sembilan chieftains ‘sack’ ruler in tit-for-tat.
Now, the power struggle is escalating.
The chieftains are turning their sights on Menteri Besar Aminuddin Harun, demanding his removal and accusing him of being unfit to lead as well as misleading the public over the alleged sacking of one of the undang.

PM-businessperson’s ties in spotlight
In a court affidavit last week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim denied having close ties with businessperson Vinod Shekar, who is currently embroiled in a RM30 million lawsuit filed by a group of multinational investors and former employees.
However, multiple online posts spanning several years appear to suggest a digital trail pointing to a relationship between the two.
Some of the earliest publicly available records date back to May 30, 2018, less than a month after the 14th general election, which brought Pakatan Harapan to power for the first time in Putrajaya and followed Anwar’s release from prison.
In those posts, both Anwar and Vinod appeared to suggest a close personal rapport, referring to each other as “old friend”, “brother”, and “good friend”.

‘We can stop MACC’s investigations’
The Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court heard how two individuals had told businessperson Ng Shih Chiow that they could “make MACC stop its investigation” against him if he agreed to their terms regarding shareholdings at his company.
The claim was recounted in a police report lodged by Shih Chiow, who is the Revenue Group Berhad (RGB) co-founder, on March 22, 2023, to urge authorities to investigate the duo’s claims and protect him from the “corporate mafia”.
The businessperson claimed that he was concerned and afraid because the two men had implied that the “MACC was under their control” and would follow their instructions or collude with them in this corporate dispute.
Shih Chiow and his brother Ng Shin Fang, also known as Brian and Dino, are being tried under Section 403 of the Penal Code for criminal misappropriation of RGB’s property involving a Toyota Vellfire.
