Aman Rais' Apa salah Dr Mahathir? is a poor attempt to support Mahathir's continuing interference in the running of our country and his occasional outbursts at the world at large.

To be fair, Aman has tried to take a balanced view, initially walking down a tightrope and tantalisingly threatening to surprise but inevitably falling as expected.

To answer him, I would ask him back: why can't Mahathir leave us alone? He has had his day in the sun - an extended one some would argue - and good intentions or not, Mahathir should know the rules of the game.

He has left his legacy (for good or for bad) and he cannot now be expecting to pull the strings a la Lee Kuan Yew.

In the case of Proton, I can liken it to a brain-dead loved one - no one wants to pull the plug, so we keep giving intravenous 'food'; its death too traumatic to bear. Even an 'advisor' is appointed.

Are we only postponing the inevitable? Perhaps not, but it is time we start holding persons accountable for results. After all these years, Mahathir now wants to advise Proton but will he now be held accountable? Of course not. But will he help to deliver this time? It is possible but highly improbable.

Pak Lah cannot push through his reforms as long as Mahathir lurks in the shadows. If Mahathir truly loves this country, it is time he sets it free. It will be alright, Dr M, just you wait and see.
