Ousted Perak Menteri Besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin has no plans to buy the official menteri besar car despite offers from the current Barisan Nasional state government.

"I'm driving it, I'm not buying it," an annoyed-looking Nizar told reporters last night at a public forum in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, several newspapers reported that BN's Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abd Kadir would give priority to Nizar during the auction of 16 Toyota Camry's used as official vehicles the latter's administration.

Nizar is the sole Pakatan Rakyat state representative that has refused to surrender the Camry official car over to the new state government because the Kuala Lumpur High Court has yet to decide on a suit on the legitimate menteri besar.

The matter has been fast-tracked to the Federal Court on Zambry's request and will be heard next Tuesday.

Nizar's administration had bought the 16 Camry vehicles on grounds that the imported cars cost less to maintain than the old fleet of Proton V6 Perdana.

Nizar's Camry still bears the Perak menteri besar plate, AGS 10, and was used to ferry him from Ipoh to the public forum in the Selangor Chinese Assembly hall last night.

May 7 sitting

On the May 7 sitting of the Perak state assembly, Nizar was coy as to Pakatan's plans for the session but hinted that speaker V Sivakumar may ignore a Federal Court declaration which lifted the suspension of Zambry and his six executive council members from entering the assembly.

nizar jamaluddin scah forum 230409 09 "The Federal Court has made a declaration, but the powers of the speaker must still be respected, in accordance with the Federal Constitution and Perak laws," he said.

Zambry and the six excos were suspended by the Special Privileges Committee, headed by Sivakumar, on Feb 18 for contempt of the state assembly.

Despite the Federal Court declaration, several legal experts have argued that Zambry failed to obtain any court order compelling Sivakumar to act on the declaration.

Asked about the several nominations for him for top posts in the PAS party polls, Nizar was mum about whether he would accept the nominations.

"I don't have time for that. I am focusing on problems in Perak and Bukit Gantang," said the newly-elected Bukit Gantang member of parliament.

Nizar was speaking to reporters after speaking at the "New Politics vs Ethnic Politics" forum organised by Chinese online news portal The Rock News .

Multiracialism thrives under Pakatan

Earlier, Nizar told a crowd of about 300 during the forum that during his administration, there was a marked improvement in racial harmony, as evident in the multi-racial turnout in many Pakatan events.

He said that the 10-month Pakatan administration had broken long-held stereotypes of the three coalition parties and forged greater understanding among people of different background.

"I am from the Islamic party PAS. Are you afraid of me?" asked Nizar, to which the all-Chinese crowd replied with a resounding "No!".

Nizar said that Umno‘s current mono-ethnic government in Perak, may not guarantee success in Perak which has close to 50 percent non-Malay population.

"In Terengganu , they have a whole government made of people from one race, but they have been fighting up until now," said Nizar, drawing applauses of agreement.
