Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim's sodomy trial seems to headed for further delays as the prosecution filed a notice of appeal against yesterday's High Court ruling releasing exhibits, documents and other evidence asked by the defence.

Justice Mohamad Zabidin Mohd Diah had instructed the prosecution to supply Anwar with most of the documents and exhibits requested to prepare for the defence at the trial.

NONE The notice, which was filed at 3.45pm at the Court of Appeal, was authorised by Solicitor-General I Idrus Harun.

The prosecution is also expected to file for a stay of yesterday's order next week.

The judge had ordered the prosecution to provide the defence CCTV recordings of the alleged crime scene along with witness' statements and the right to inspect slides of the DNA specimens.

Justice Mohammad Zabidin has given the prosecution seven days to comply with the order.

Anwar, 62, is charged with sodomising Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 24, his former aide, at a condominium in Bukit Damansara on June 26, last year.

Among the documents requested by the defence are statements by Mohd Saiful, Dr Osman Abdul Hamid of Pusrawi, condominium owner Hassanuddin Abdul Hamid and three other key witnesses.

He added that Anwar has instructed him to file across-appeal.

The court had fixed July 24 for mention of Anwar's application to strike out the sodomy charge and to fix the dates of the sodomy trial if it is allowed to proceed.

The Court of Appeal, however, might take at least a week or two before a date is fixed to hear the appeal and cross appeal.
