Banners, logos and tokens given to delegates such as backpacks were all embedded, for a change, with the unity concept of '1Malaysia'.

Even tags issued to delegates, officers on duty and the media were all embedded with Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's (left) vision of '1Malaysia' logo.

Delegates had also refrained from citing their frequent Malay supremacy ideal in their debates and hardly trampled on anything contentious to other races.

Move did not go down well

This tame move however, did not go down well with the delegates, who were notably unhappy with having forced to tone down and refrain from anything contentious.

"Is this Umno general assembly, BN assembly or '1Malaysia' NONE assembly?" asked a delegate, who did not want to be named, sarcastically.

The delegates were also unhappy with banners bearing the portrait of Najib, with the '1Malaysia' logo.

Umno's 'reformed' outlook however, is in tandem with Youth Chief Khairy Jamaluddin's (right) proclamation for a change in mindset.

In his policy speech yesterday, Khairy stressed that it was time for Malays to free themselves from the cocoon and leave behind the siege mentality, and to adopt the stand of '1Malaysia'.

Meanwhile, party president Najib Abdul Razak said that while Umno is on the road for reforms, the government would still continue to aid the Malays.
