Hasan Ali confirms receiving show-cause letter

Controversial and outspoken PAS leader Dr Hasan Ali today confirmed that he received a show-cause letter from the party's discipl inary committee yesterday.

The Selangor PAS commissioner ( right ) however refused to divulge the details of the letter when approached by reporters at the annexe building in Shah Alam.

"You don't need to know the details...it's an internal party matter," he said.

Hasan did, however, admit it was related to his criticisms of the Selangor Select Committee on Competence, Accountability and Transparency public inquiry and his call for a ban on the sale of beer in Selangor.

"It has something to do with it...but (the letter) does not concentrate on that issue alone. Let's just leave the details between the disciplinary board and I," he said.

Hasan said he is prepared to answer the show-cause letter and give his full cooperation to resolve the matter. "It's not a big deal. It's not an issue dealing with crime or an abuse of power."

Yesterday, Malay online news portal mStar reported that Hasan faced the possibility of being relieved of his position or sacked if the disciplinary committee found him guilty of acting against the party's interests.

PAS disciplinary committee chairman Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man was quoted as having said that Hasan faced the possibility of his membership being frozen or being sacked from the party.

Hasan said his future in the party remains uncertain. "We would like to find a solution to this...that's why I was given a chance to explain.

"But I don't know what would happen next, maybe I would be called by the committee again," he said.

Complainants too, need strong basis

When asked if he had been ‘unfairly targeted' by certain quarters in the party, he replied: "This matter is subjective. I'm just a party member and if there are allegations against me, I need to answer them," he said.

According to him, his complainants too, need to present a strong basis for their allegations. "If they did not have a strong basis, they would not have referred me to disciplinary committee."

However, Hasan said he was in the dark about the identity of his complainants but positive that it did not come from Selangor PAS.

"Officially, I should know more about what is happening in this state because I'm the commissioner," he said.

Hasan also is not in the know whether there are other PAS leaders who had received similar show-cause letters from the disciplinary committee.

"I don't know about that. I did not even ask (the committee). All I know is that I'm the only one who received the letter," he said.

Yesterday, Tuan Ibrahim ( right ) was quoted as saying that there were other PAS state leaders issued with show-cause letters. He did not name them.
