A Putera MIC ‘psy-war' team member has stumbled on a purported plan to attack the Hindu temple in Batu Caves using petrol bombs on Jan 29, the eve of Thaipusam.

As a precautionary move, Putera MIC Segambut division head SS Yogendran lodged a police report today against one Shahrul Maizam.

NONE The report was based on comments to a posting in a Facebook page ( right ) under the name of user Afiq Mohsin who wrote: 29 ni aq naik bt caves siallll (On the 29th, I want to go up the damned Batu Caves).

Shahrul then indicated that he is willing to create a ruckus if the payment is favourable, writing: Ke nak aku baling bom petrol kat sana plak? ... harga boleh runding (Do you want me to throw petrol bombs over there? The price is negotiable).

Yogendran said he was informed of this yesterday evening and that he posted a screenshot of the page on the Putera MIC website.

"We are not taking this statement lightly in the wake of the recent attacks on places of worship," he said, adding that the comments have since been removed.

A Sikh temple was attacked yesterday, following a series of attacks on Christian churches since last Friday.

This followed a court ruling on Dec 31 last year, allowing Catholic weekly magazine Herald to use the word ‘Allah' in its Bahasa Malaysia version.

‘Don't joke with us'

Afiq Mohsin and Shahrul could not be contacted for comment.

Putera MIC chief P Kamalanathan said those posting comments on Internet sites should be held accountable for what they write, given the plural nature of Malaysian society.

"Don't joke around with us," he warned.

Batu Caves temple committee chairperson R Nadarajah said he was unaware of the threat, but was confident that there would not be any such attack.
