'We're keeping an eye on Big Brother Hisham'

vox populi big thumbnail 'It is Hishammuddin's duty to be concerned about the behaviour of writers on websites. But as a leader he is also expected to lead by example... And here, he has some questions that require answers.'

Eye on blogs, websites touching on sensitivities

Tan Kian Khim: The home minister should take a good look in the mirror before he starts spewing hypocritical rubbish like this. The first organisation Hishammuddin Hussein should bring to book for 'inciting race-religion tensions' is Umno's pet, Utusan Malaysia.

The first individual he should arrest is himself, for being a rabid fascist with a keris and a supporter of the 'cow-head' hooligans.

Cala: John Adams once said that an elected government is expected to be the government of laws, not men. The main reason is that laws are seen impartial and, therefore, fair.

On the other hand, if we have a government of men, and not laws, fairness invariably becomes a rare commodity. The nature of man is such that self-interestedness is the order of the day. No one can fault Hishammuddin, for it is his duty to be concerned about the behaviour of writers on websites, etc.

But as a leader he is expected to lead by example. He must be seen to be acting as fair and equitable to all. And here, he has some questions that require answers. Is he prepared to take action on Utusan Malaysia for stoking racial sentiments as have been widely reported?

Secondly, why did he meet the cow-head people after the incident? In sum, legitimacy only has meaning if the rights of a person in governance are paired with duties in which others expect him to discharge.

Changeagent: Let's get this straight, Hishammuddin - it's not okay for bloggers and websites to touch on people's sensitivities, but it was okay for you to wave the keris while you carried on with your 'Ketuanan Melayu' rhetoric? What a hypocrite you are.

Freemsia: Taking action on those touching on racial and religious sensitivities? Who is Keris-muddin kidding? Umno all this years has been using the race card to instill fear into the Malays that they are supposed to lead and this has resulted in the polarisation of the races in this country.

The home minister even supported, for example, the cow-head protesters. Umno-owned Utusan , has been getting away countless times with attempting to incite racial and religious tensions. Looks like the days of media control during the time of Dr Mahathir Mohamad is slowly making a comeback.

One month to decide Zulkifli and Zahrain's fate

GK: During the Reformasi days, we can feel there was one common revolutionary force that united Malaysians and which aspired to reform Malaysia into one country. Thus, the birth of 'Party Keadilan' and later 'Parti Keadilan Rakyat' with its multiracial ideology.

Many Umno members loyal to Anwar Ibrahim as well as activists like Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Tian Chua, R Sivarasa, William Leong, Elizabeth Wong and Lim Tze Sim joined the force without differentiating between races and religions, as Umno/BN have done.

It is this type of spirit that should be kept alive and nurtured in everyone of us, more so PKR/Pakatan Rakyat members, including Zulkifli Noordin, Zahrain Mohd Hashim and Hasan Ali. Apparently, such spirit has diminished in these three gentlemen (I hope just three, not more than that).

They have to honestly ask themselves this. If there is no such spirit in them, then PKR/Pakatan is not for them. Resign on your own or be sacked.

Rocky: Heng Cheng Guan, I guess you're doing your best to win some favours from BN so you can get Parti Cinta Malaysia into the ruling coalition. Gerakan will not allow it, but they can be pushed over because Koh Tsu Koon is a back-door minister. MCA will not allow you in.

'Umno supreme council can act against Ku Li'

Habib RAK: Umno assemblymen from Kelantan should learn from Tengku Razaleigh.Hamzah. The five percent oil and gas royalty belongs to the rakyat of Kelantan as per the PDA (Petroleum Development Agreement).

The rakyat chose PAS to rule the state. Thus, the royalty payment should be paid to the state government. Kelantan Umno chief Mustapa Mohamed and gang should not betray their own state for short-term political gains. Derhaka pada rakyat adalah perkara yang keji (treachery against the rakyat is most foul deed).

Jbss: It is the right of the Kelantan government and rakyat to receive the five percent oil royalty as cash payment as provided for under the Petronas Development Act 1974 and the Federal Constitution. Umno/BN have no right to change the interpretation of the PDA and the constitution on their whims and fancy in their favour.

The Kelantan government and rakyat do not want Umno/BN's 'compassionate payment'. Mustapha Mohamed is a traitor to the Kelantan rakyat.
