Sodomy II: 'Malaysia on trial'
Published:  Feb 3, 2010 8:05 AM
Updated: 6:42 AM

your say ‘It’s the Royal Malaysian Police, the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the medical services, the forensics department as well as the judiciary that are actually on trial.

Stay application quashed, trial resumes tomorrow

Changeagent: It's good to know that the international diplomatic community has taken a keen interest in this case, and are throwing their support around Anwar Ibrahim. May truth and justice prevail. The majority of the people know that he is innocent.

Lin Wen Quan:

With so many foreign diplomats showing such interest in this sequel to the infamous 1988 trial, it’s not Anwar whose on trial, but rather the judiciary and the police force.

If the judiciary were to conduct themselves as they did in the controversial first sodomy trial when it was obvious that they were out to nail Anwar, then it will be the a sad day for a system that has been received with so much cynicism not only at home but abroad.

What better opportunity than now for the judiciary and police to redeem themselves by conducting this trial without fear or favour.

Wira: It’s the police, the attorney-general’s department, the medical services, the forensics department as well as the judiciary that are actually on trial in front of the rakyat and the international media.

Joos:

I think Umno had already knocked themselves out of the game. The whole nation is just waiting for the next general election to rubberstamp it.

Anwar seeks to subpoena Najib and Rosmah

Cala: One of my bosses once told me to be wary of the source of company information. He said the reliability of a piece of information was inversely proportional to the seniority of that source in the company. In plain words, do not trust the bosses. And take words coming from an office boy more seriously than from a boss.

On that note, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's initial denial and subsequent about-turn - pertaining to the meeting he had with Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan before the latter made his police report - leaves a lot of room for the imagination.

D1abolus: If the courts can refuse to call Najib in the Altantuya case, they can also refuse to put him on the stand for ‘Sodomy II’. Our Umno-run judiciary (including the Chief Justice Zaki Azmi) will ensure that Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor will not be 'bothered' by any subpoenas.

Doc: I don’t doubt that the Umno Court - oops, I mean the High Court - will look out for Rosmah and Najib's wellbeing and ensure that they do not take the stand. Let’s sit back and see how the first couple deflect yet another round of attacks.

Lvbala:

Can't wait to see Najib and his wife Rosmah giving their testimony in the court.

Baiyuensheng:

Would the PM see each and every Malaysian with requests of scholarships? Seems like a scholarship matter is urgent enough for our PM to grant a audience, whereas others probably with more important matters may not be so lucky.

Kgen:

Najib really is the people's PM. Any Ahmad, Ah Chong or Ramasamy can drop in to his house or office at night to seek career advice or for guidance on personal problems. Sodomised by someone? Pak Najib is ready to help!

Come one come all. I'm sure the report I hear that it takes a deputy minister six months to arrange a meeting with Najib is not true.

What happened 11 years ago cannot be repeated without great damage being meted to the BN government and our law enforcement agencies. Times have changed but Umno's thinking is still ossified in days gone by.

Hakimah Hassan:

Anwar, at this moment in time I am with a group of 50 friends reciting the ‘Yasin’ from the Quran and performing solat hajat prayers for you. Its very simple. If Saiful lied, we only ask for Allah to punish him. If he did not, then we pray for vice-versa.

We trust you, Brother Anwar, but Allah knows better. Whoever is at fault, we hope he will get be humiliated. We don't mind praying and reciting ‘Yasin’ until everything over. We are now in one of the mosques in Jawa, Indonesia. May Allah Almight show us the liar.

GK: The way the ‘Sodomy I’ trial was conducted did severe damage not only to the respect and integrity of the judiciary but also to the respect and integrity of our country as well, despite Anwar’s subsequent release.

I hope that ‘Sodomy II’ will not be like its predecessor and that the judge conducts this trial impartially. He would be doing a big favour to Malaysia himself.

Artchan:

This Saiful fellow is just a pawn. When it is over, he will soon be forgotten or maybe ‘disappear’ so that he speaks no more. If a Mongolian national can be blown to bits and have her immigration records deleted, what else is not possible?
