S'gor exco aide acquitted over forged invoice
Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu special assistant Wong Chuan How has been acquitted by Shah Alam Sessions Court of allegedly forging an invoice for the purchase of car flags.
Selangor executive councillor Ronnie Liu special assistant Wong Chuan How has been acquitted by Shah Alam Sessions Court of allegedly forging an invoice for the purchase of car flags.
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had accused Wong, 51, of submitting a forged invoice amounting to RM2,500 to the Sepang Municipal Council for the car flags that were never delivered.
In his decision, judge Azhaniz Teh Azman Teh said the prosecution had failed to prove a prima facie case against Wong. He also ordered the RM5,000 bail money be returned.
Azhaniz took just three minutes to read his judgment.
In an immediate response, deputy public prosecutor Mohd Josiendra Abu Senin said the MACC would appeal the decision.
A vindicated Wong told reporters that he was confident that he would be similarly acquitted of two other charges brought by the MACC.
"I thank the press for following my case in earnest. The judgment has finally cleared my name. I'm confident that I would be similarly acquitted of the two other cases," said Wong, who also thanked his lawyer Imran Hadzalie Abdul Hamid.
Liu: Wong vindicated
Wong has been additionally charged under section 406 of the Penal Code for criminal breach of trust (CBT) involving two cheques amounting to RM2,500 and RM5,000.
The cases would be heard on April 8 and April 12.
Meanwhile, Liu was similarly elated when told of the news.
"I'm very happy. The judgment shows that my assistant had performed his duties properly and cleanly," said Liu.
Wong's arrest was part of a MACC investigation into 20 Selangor state representatives over the alleged misuse of government allocations for their respective constituencies.
If MACC's dragnet was not enough to raise eyebrows, Wong suffered injuries ( left ) upon his arrest.
He was charged on Nov 3 last year along with four others, including Sabak Bernam parliamentarian Abd Rahman Bakri from Umno.
