The MIC has urged Umno not to undermine the MIC's chance of seizing back the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat in the upcoming polls.

The Kuala Kubu Baru seat is held by the MCA with Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali by Umno.

 Muniandy wants Umno to treat MIC as their brothers in regaining the Hulu Selangor as fear grows among party members of losing the chance of getting back the seat.

He said Umno, as a big brother, should understand their younger brother, MIC when met at MIC division office in Kuala Kubu Baru yesterday.

Muniandy was responding to a question on Umno sabotaging the Hulu Selangor by-election in the event that MIC deputy president, G Palanivel is confirmed as the Barisan Nasional candidate.

Umno's tools turn the screws

The pressure for the seat to be returned back to Umno  intensified when 54 Federal Village Security and Development Committees (JKKKP) chairpersons handed over a memorandum on the matter to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak on March 30.

Umno had allowed the MIC to contest the Hulu Selangor seat in 1990.

In addition, Umno-owned Utusan Malaysia senior journalist Zulkiflee Bakar yesterday piled more pressure on Barisan Nasional to field Umno in the by-election.

In an opinion piece entitled Kerusi tradisi atau naluri rakyat Hulu Selangor (Traditional seat or Hulu Selangor's pulse) argued that fielding MIC would dampen BN's chances.

Zulkiflee warned Umno that it should take heed from MIC's loss in Bukit Selambau by-election last April. He argued that grassroots then had demanded that BN field an Umno candidate.
