The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) has expressed hope that Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand will testify as scheduled during the Teoh Beng Hock inquest.

"This is to allow the case to be resolved quickly in order for all parties, including Teoh's family and MACC, to seek justice," said MACC in a statement today.

According to the two-paragraph statement, Pornthip need not worry because an assurance of her safety has been given by the police, attorney-general and Home Ministry.

NONE In an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini , Pornthip had said she was pulling out of the inquest because she was facing "political pressure" from Putrajaya, as relayed to her by Thai government officials.

MACC is a key party in the inquest because Teoh died shortly after being interrogated by its officers.

As Teoh was attached to the Selangor government, it engaged Pornthip to provide expert opinion on the cause of Teoh's death.

After observing medical documents and photos of Teoh's body, Pornthip told the inquest that the cause of death was "80 percent homicide" and pointed out the presence of possible strangulation marks on the body.

She later served as an observer during the second autopsy on Teoh's remains.

Pornthip had been expected to elaborate on her findings when the inquest resumes on April 20.
