Rasa folk lauded for ignoring RM3 mil carrot
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang today sang Rasa villagers' praises for turning their backs convincingly on the Barisan Nasional despite RM3 million pledge.
DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang today praised voters from Rasa village for voting overwhelmingly against Barisan Nasional, despite the coalition's RM3 million pledge to a school there.
"Greater praises are in order to the voters of Rasa who have demonstrated that they are worthy pioneers of ‘New
Politics in Malaysia' to usher in a ‘New Malaysia' of justice, freedom, excellence and prosperity for all, regardless of race, religion or region, while insisting on their rights to development as citizens and taxpayers," said Lim (

in a statement today.
Lim was referring to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's RM3 million carrot for Rasa folks, to be disbursed on condition that the coalition win the Hulu Selangor Parliamentary by-election.
However, polling day on Sunday, saw about 82 percent of Rasa voters voted for opposition PKR candidate Zaid Ibrahim, but still Najib sfulfilled the RM3 million pledge yesterday.
The funds were meant for the construction of a new building for SRJK (C) Rasa, a 81-year-old school which is in a sad state of repair.
Ripening of political maturity
Despite the hefty pledge by Najib, Lim points out that the Rasa polling district saw the highest amount of support for the PKR candidate.
Lim said that comparatively, PKR managed to secure 82 percent from Rasa area to just 56.74 percent in 2008.
"(This is) a great tribute to the maturity and political consciousness of the voters of Rasa," said Lim.
The Hulu Selangor by-election saw PKR being narrowly edged out by BN's P Kamalanathan in an intensely fought campaign.
A cursory look at the voting data showed that PKR scored marked increases in Chinese-majority polling districts but in those with fared a Malay majority, it fared poorly.
