Forensic expert Amidon Anan - who was involved in such high profile cases such as the Canny Ong and Altantuya Shaariibuu murders - has come forward to offer his services to the family of 14-year-old Aminulrasyid Amzah.

 

NONE According to the deceased’s uncle and family spokesperson Kamarudin Hasan, the now retired former police superintendent Amidon ( left ) is the only forensic expert who has offered his service alongside a long list of lawyers from NGOs and political parties.

 

Speaking to reporters after a 20-minute discussion with Amidon at Aminulrasyid's family home, Kamarudin said that the family is considering the offer.

 

"We have reached an understanding with Amidon (but) we have a big family and we want to consult them before announcing our decision," he said.

Amidon, who headed the police forensic department's Crime Scene Investigation Unit, reportedly was also involved in investigating the Highland Towers landslide incident in 1993.

NONE Kamarudin ( far right , in white shirt) added that if the family accepts Amidon's offer, it will be to obtain a comparison to the police' version of events. 

 

"We want a second opinion," he said.

 

It is understood that Amidon has not put a price on his services and has left it to the family to decide whether or not to pay him.

 

The family's top priority at the moment, said Kamarudin, is to redeem the reputation of the deceased and that of his family.

 

The police had claimed that Aminulrasyid was found in suspicious cirumstances and that they found a machete in the car that the 14-year-old was driving.

The police had also alleged that Aminulrasyid had tried to reverse the car into police personnel.

"It is as if they are saying that we have raised a crook, so we want the investigations to conclude as soon as possible so we can clear Aminulrasyid's and our name," said Kamarudin.

 

He added that the family does not want the case to be prolonged, as in the case of Norizan Salleh.

Norizan, who was shot five times by the police in October last year and survived, has yet to know the outcome of the Home Ministry's inquiry into the matter.

Earlier today, the family confirmed that veteran lawyer Karpal Singh would act on their behalf, alongside more than six other lawyers, including N Surendran, Farhana Abdul Halim and Fadiah Nadwa Fikri.
