Maradong state assemblyperson Ting Tze Fui has been referred to the Sarawak state legislative assembly rights and privileges committee over a remark made last November.

NONE Ting ( right ) will face the committee this Friday, following a successful motion filed by state second finance minister Wong Soon Koh today, during the assembly sitting.

The motion to censure Ting comes in the wake of the BN dominated assembly’s decision to suspend Chong Jen Jien (DAP-Bandar Kuching) and Dominique Ng (PKR-Padungan) for 12 months yesterday.

When contacted, Ting said she was referred to the committee for accusing the state government of misappropriating public funds during the debate on the state budget last November.

At the time, Wong had demanded Ting back her claims with facts.

“Today, I brought a newspaper cutting where a daily reported the matter titled 'Billions siphoned – Sarawak government stepped in' to substantiate my claim,” she said when contacted by Malaysiakini .

                            

“However, Wong decided to refer me to the rights and privileges committee for making the statement and not wanting to retract it. I came with evidence as what was reported in the newspaper.”

Ting, 29, said she stood by her claim and would not let possible disciplinary action deter her from keeping the state government in check.

“I will soldier on to fight and expose such abuses. I will continue to provide service in my constitutency,” she said.

Act of revenge

DAP has six state assemblyperson in Sarawak, while PKR has one, in the 71-seat assembly.

N azlan ewly-elected Sibu MP and state opposition leader, Wong Ho Leng described the suspensions handed yesterday and the decision to censure Ting was BN’s attempt to extract revenge over its loss in the Sibu by-election.

“They are using the state assembly as a stage to chase out Pakatan elected representatives,” he said.

Ho Leng, who is also Bukit Assek assemblyperson regretted such high-handed tactics employed by BN.

“We know we are clearly outnumbered in the assembly but it would not stop us from raising such issues which are in the interest of the rakyat.

"We are here to play a role in providing check and balance,” he said.

Ho Leng was himself suspended last year for 12 months. The suspension expired on May 13.
