The sand and minerals mining company at the centre of corruption allegations today submitted documents to the Selangor legislative assembly’s Select Committee on Competency, Accountability and Transparency  (Selcat).

sivakumar and teng chang khim forum at klscah 290509 01 The move comes just days before the committee sits next week to hear charges of irregularities against Selangor-state-owned Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB).

According to sources, the said documents were given by hand to a Selcat official around 3pm.

The source declined to give further details as to the contents of the documents.

"I cannot tell you that," he said.

Malaysiakini understands this is the final day accorded to the company to submit the documents to the committee, which will conduct its hearing on the matter at the state assembly building from June 2 - 4 between 10am and 1pm.

When contacted, Speaker Teng Chang Khim ( left ) - who also chairs Selcat - said the committee was prepared to hold the public hearing next week.

NONE On May 12, Kapar parliamentarian S Manikavasagam lodged a police report claiming three senior KSSB officials were involved in illegal sand mining operations.

In the report, Manikavasagam ( right ) alleged, among other things, that the three were responsible for losses of up to RM10 million as a result of mismanagement and the issuance of permits to illegal sand miners.KSSB press conference

Meanwhile, a source within KSSB said the company is expected to hold a press conference early next month in relation to the accusations that have been levelled against it.

It is understood that the press conference will be held before the commencement of the Selcat hearing on June 2, although the exact time and venue of the event had not yet been determined.

Asked about the documents submitted to the committee today, the source said: "We cannot tell you anything before the press conference."

A statement has been issued by the Selangor government secretariat calling for members of the public to attend the hearing. Those wishing to do so are reminded to dress neatly.
