The Syariah High Court today endorsed the marriage of Kinabatangan member of parliament Bung Moktar Radin and actress Zizie Izette A Samad according to Section 12 (2) of the Islamic Family Law (Federal Territories) Act 1984 (Act 303).

Syarie judge Mohd Abdul Radzi Abd Latif declared the marriage as valid after a 15-minute closed-door hearing.

"The court endorses the marriage of Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette who were married on June 9 at Taman Setiawangsa here," he added.

NONE In handing down the decision, he ordered the couple to register their marriage accordingly.

Earlier, Mohd Abdul Radzi ordered media members, who were present to cover the case, to leave the court room, following a request by the couple's counsel, Zulkifli Che Yong.

On June 4, Bung Moktar and Zizie Izette filed the application seeking the court's validation and registration of their marriage, and to order the Federal Territories Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation Registrar to recognise and register their marriage.

This decision will not affect an earlier court decision where Bung Moktar was sentenced to one month’s jail and fined RM1,000 for indulging in polygamy without first getting the green light from the court.

Stay of execution

On May 19, the MP was sentenced to one month's jail by Gombak Timur Syariah Lower Court for committing polygamy without the court's permission last year.

Syarie Judge Wan Mahyuddin Wan Muhammad however allowed a stay of execution on Bung Moktar who was granted RM1,000 bail with one surety pending appeal.

Bung Moktar was also fined RM1,000 in default one month's jail for abetting Zizie to marry without consent of the Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation at the same place, time and date.

Zizie was also fined RM1,000 in default one month's jail for marrying Bung Moktar without consent of the Registrar of Marriage, Divorce and Reconciliation at the same place, time and date.

The popular actress who was charged under Section 40 (2) of the Selangor Islamic Family Law Enactment 2003 was also fined RM1,000 in default six month's jail for abetting Bung Mokhtar in committing polygamy without consent of the court.
