The spat between Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia president Ibrahim Ali and Deputy Education Minister, Wee Ka Siong, takes on a new dimension tomorrow, as the NGO's inaugural tabloid Suara Perkasa wants the MCA Youth chief detained under the Internal Security Act.

azlan The headline on the front page is titled " Tahan Ka Siong bawah ISA: Didesak minta maaf atau letak jawatan ." (Detain Ka Siong Under ISA: Apologise or resign).

Ibrahim had lashed out at the deputy education minister, calling him biadap (unruly) for urging the government to maintain the Public Service Department (PSD) scholarships.

Wee was quoted in the Star newspaper recently as saying that if the government is doing away with the PSD scholarships while retaining the Mara ones, this would not be in line with the 1Malaysia concept.

He has since clarified that he was not questioning the Mara scholarships and neither did he want them scrapped.

Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin then defended Wee, saying there was nothing wrong his colleague's statement.

This has however, led to an exchange between Khairy and Ibrahim.

More than a political paper

Meanwhile Perkasa deputy president, Abdul Rahman A Bakar, said the new tabloid is a way to portray and fight for Malay rights, in line with Perkasa's struggles.

"It is not merely a political paper," he said in a press conference on the tabloid's office in Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur today.

The tabloid also has articles like ‘Don't take away bumiputera rights' written by Ibrahim, and ‘Malays will disappear' by former PKR information chief Ruslan Kasim.

There is also an article on the importance of Mara in helping the Malays, while another deals with Article 153 of the Federal Constitution, which pertains to Malay rights and privileges.

The fortnightly tabloid will be available at newsstands nationwide from tomorrow, priced at RM2.

25,000 copies of the inaugural edition have been printed with plans  to increase it later.

Chief editor Daud Ibrahim said the Home Ministry had issued the publication's permit in March.

"The publication will address issues affecting Malays like scholarships, culture, language, and limited economic and job opportunities. The focus will be on Malay rights as enshrined in Article 153 of the federal constitution," he said.

Daud said Perkasa has 28,000 registered members and that another 140,000 are expected to join soon.

He added the group had managed to produce a newsletter during the AGM, but had been unable to expand it into a full-fledged publication due to teething problems.
