The ‘GAS 2' rally tomorrow will proceed as planned at the Dewan Hamzah in Klang despite that no police permit has been issued for the gathering.

"The gathering will go on tomorrow as the Klang police have said we can conduct it within the hall," claimed former MIC central working committee member KP Samy when contacted by Malaysiakini .

NONE "I have been receiving threats that my wife and kids will be killed if this rally goes on," Samy ( right ) said.

"I won't be deterred by this, and I will still fight for the Indian community."

Samy made a police report at the Sentul police station at 5.10pm that he received two calls from two separate mobile phone numbers threatening to kill his wife and children.

He said the calls were made at 3.22pm and 4.25pm, soon after he gave a press conference at a restaurant in Sentul this afternoon.

The rebel MIC leader, who gave the mobile phone numbers to the police, said that he was worried about the safety of his family.

According to Samy, this second gathering will also be a platform for V Ganabatirau and R Kengadharan who were once involved in the Hindraf movement to express their views on key problems faced by the community.

On MIC leaders' threat to prevent the gathering , he reiterated: "We will not retaliate if there are attacks by MIC members, but will adopt (Mahatma) Gandhi's principle of ahimsa (non-violence)."

The first GAS gathering was held on May 30 at the Mines International Exhibition and Convention Centre attended by more than 5,000 people.

The GAS movement was initiated by former MIC Youth chief V Mugilan in an effort to get 500,000 signatures from MIC members nationwide to force Samy Vellu to step down.

Police to monitor rally

Meanwhile, Klang police chief assistant commissioner Mohamed Mat Yusof said police officers would be deployed to prevent untoward incidents at the Dewan Hamzah.

"So far, no permit has been issued by the police for the gathering. Morover, we do not know the number of supporters who will be participating in the rally.

"(So) As a precaution, we will keep an eye on the movement," he told Bernama when contacted today.

It is learnt that the gathering was earlier scheduled to have been held on June 13, but was postponed due to security factors.

Selangor MIC Youth chief M Shanker Raj Ayenger said the

movement, in its national annual general assembly tomorrow, would decide whether to hold a protest against the proposed gathering.

He lodged a report at the Klang police headquarters yesterday to protest against the gathering.
