Hisham, Rais weigh in on 'Anwar-CIA' charges

Action will only be taken against PKR adviser Anwar Ibrahim if he becomes a threat to national security after being linked to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA).

Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein ( right ) said, however, the ministry had no knowledge of it and proofs were required before any action could

be taken.

"We do not know whether he is a (CIA) tool as alleged but somewhat his secrets have been revealed one after another," Hishammuddin was reported by Bernama as telling journalists after opening the Paya Besar Umno division delegates meeting.

He was commenting on a claim by New York-based blogger Elaine Meinel Supkis of Culture of Life News that Anwar was made a tool by the CIA to protect Washington's interest in Kuala Lumpur.

"I feel that he (Anwar) is not a threat to national security as we know of his behaviour.

"What is important, my responsibility is to ensure that our country is safe from JI (Jemaah Islamiah), Al Qaeda threats... they (the opposition) are politicking 24 hours and in the end the people will evaluate and determine their position," said Hishammuddin.

Weighing in on the same issue, Rais Yatim today urged former Umno members who had joined PKR to return to Umno.

"Hopefully, the blog writer (Meinel) has the facts to back her claims, but I believe she has made investigations before writing the article and it's not just an empty piece," Rais told reporters after opening the Pengerang Umno division's delegates' meeting.

Rais ( right ), who is an Umno supreme council member, said the former Umno members should realise that in pursuing his objectives, Anwar was like a chameleon as he kept changing his stand to suit his self interest.

He believed that with the return of ex-Umno members to the fold, the Malay struggle could be further strengthened.

Rais said further Meinel's disclosure showed that PKR did not have a reliable leader to lead the country.

Rais, who is also Information Communication and Culture Minister, said each Umno member must discard the attitude of being averse to change and of being selfish as this could divide the party.

Later, when opening the Kota Tinggi Umno delegates' meeting, he said the transformation in the party must involve the participaton of all party members and not just the leaders.

"This is to ensure continuity of Umno's struggle to safeguard the interests of the Malay community, Islam, and the Malay language and culture," he added.
