PKR is going full force to garner grassroots support as it heads out into yet another leadership gathering in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan this weekend.

The gathering, the second PKR has held in the past month, appears to be a bid to get its house in order for an anticipated snap general election.

NONE "It may not appear likely that snap polls will happen soon, but we must act as though it will," said party information chief Latheefa Koya.

Party top guns like de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim and president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail are expected to attend, along with the leadership council and state PKR assemblypersons and parliamentarians.

It will also be attended by state chiefs and five representatives from the women and youth wings respectively, she said.

According to Latheefa, the gathering will be a follow-up to the Shah Alam event on June 26, where the party looked at setting out roadmaps and strategies to address issues pertaining to the party's image and the general election.

"This time around we will be appointing task forces so there will be people responsible for the implementation," she said.

Among the issues which the task forces will be looking at will be the synchronising of policies between the four Pakatan Rakyat states, she added.

"We'll be setting targets to open up more branches and divisions, particularly in focus areas like in the Felda settlements," she said.

Latheefa ( right ) added that PKR branches and divisions will also be required to champion the issues at their level in order to communicate the party's stand on the matter more clearly.

Besides this, the meeting will address the issue of party mouthpiece Suara Keadilan , which has been sued and has had its permit suspended following a report alleging that Felda is going bankrupt.

Candidate selection process

Meanwhile, party elections coordinator Fuziah Salleh told Malaysiakini that the party is getting closer to finalising the criteria list and selection process for election candidates.

"The next step will be to present it to the leadership council for further discussion," she said.

She added that the party is also looking into using focus groups to gain further feedback into the matter.

"This is important for us as the issue is how to appeal to the grassroots," she said.
