'I can't disclose contents of new SD'

Rahimi Osman said he cannot reveal the contents of the new statutory declaration which he made yesterday, after he had lodged a police report alleging that two earlier statutory declarations he signed in 2008, were made under duress.

Rahimi, 25 ( standing ), had yesterday claimed the documents as stated in his police report were directed to implicate Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, in an alleged conspiracy over Anwar's second sodomy trial.

The former aide to Anwar Ibrahim today said he cannot reveal the new statutory declaration for the time being.

"I cannot reveal it as it may disrupt the present on-going (sodomy) case," he told Malaysiakini .

"I merely wanted to withdraw the two earlier statutory declarations. I also do not want to disrupt the present court proceedings and do not want to play politics," the former political aide and presently a businessperson, said.

He maintained that what he signed previously before lawyer Latheefa Koya, who is presently the PKR informtion chief, was untrue and he wanted to tell what actually happened.

Rahimi, in lodging the police report, had appended a copy of his latest statutory declaration to it.

His press conference held at a restaurant in Klang was disrupted by alleged PKR supporters who were out to defend Anwar.

Asked whether he had copies of the old statutory declarations which he claimed he was forced to sign, Rahimi said he does not have them as he was not given copies.

Zaid's stand ‘exemplary'

Rahimi was also asked on comments made by PKR deputy president aspirant Zaid Ibrahim, asking the police to probe into his claims.

He said he was happy that there are some PKR leaders like Zaid ( right ) who respected the law and his individual rights.

"Zaid is open-minded, and this is how PKR should be. I have no qualms or thoughts of revenge on PKR and its members.

"I merely wanted to correct the past mistake (the two affidavits)," he said.

Zaid had asked the authorities to investigate the claims made by Rahimi and likening such scenario to the retraction of private investigator P Balasubramaniam's statutory declaration.

"His case is exactly like PI Bala's. If you want to investigate Bala's claims, you have to investigate Rahimi also... You cannot have double standards for Bala and Rahimi," said Zaid during a press conference held at his residence today.

‘Nothing to fear'

Rahimi further said Anwar and Latheefa had nothing to fear if they are right.

"There is nothing for Anwar or Lat (Latheefa) to fear with what I have to say, if they are right. Why is there a need to send people to disrupt the press conference?

"They can freely hold press conference but when I want to organise one, they disrupted it. Where is my right for freedom of speech, something which PKR had always fought for and aspire to in the party?" he said.

He however do not want to answer questions about the possibility that he may be called as the prosecution's witness in the on-going sodomy trial.

Anwar's lawyer Sankara Nair ( right ) had yesterday confirmed that Rahimi was initially listed as part of Anwar's defence witnesses as he had voluntarily approached the defnce to testify for them in the case.

However, following the turn of events yesterday Rahimi's status remains uncertain.

Saiful: No comment

When contacted, the complainant in Anwar's case, Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, said he did not wish to comment on these developments.

Rahimi and Saiful, the star witness in the trial, were schoolmates in SMK Damansara Utama and the former had introduced the complainant to be hired by Anwar.

Rahimi's name was mentioned by Saiful on two occasions during the trial - namely when Saiful was brought to meet Anwar.

The second time came when Rahimi, along with Mumtaz Jaafar, former PKR Youth chief Ezam Mohd Noor and an ustaz had advised Saiful to lodge a police report over the incident.
