Anwar Ibrahim’s defence team in his ongoing sodomy trial is expected to file notices for contempt proceedings against his former aides Rahimi Osman and Rasid Rosli.

Lawyer Sankara Nair said they are currently studying and gathering information based on what had been reported by the media.

"This is subjudice. We will study what had been said to the media and file the notice next week," he said.

 

Rahimi and Rasid had both lodged police reports alleging that Anwar’s lawyers had coerced them into signing dubious statutory declarations in relations to Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan’s allegations that he was sodomised.

The duo also issued statements to the press which had attracted  heavy media coverage.

Earlier during proceedings, senior lawyer Karpal Singh had informed the court that the defence was considering initiating contempt proceeding against Rahimi, who had been slated to be their witness.

"He is potentially our witness. We are worried there could be more.

"There are also signs this is initiated from higher-ups," he told Justice Mohamad Zabidin Md Diah.

Justice Zabidin then asked them to file the necessary papers and he would consider their application for leave (permission) to consider contempt proceeding against Rahimi.

NONE Rahimi ( left ) had made a surprising revelation last week, when he alleged he was forced by Anwar's lawyers to sign two statutory declarations implicating Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his wife, Rosmah Mansor, in a conspiracy to fix Anwar with the sodomy charge.

 He had further alleged that Anwar had looked pal e when he met the politician at the Quality Hotel in Shah Alam, after Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan had lodged the police report two years ago.
