Scenes of commotion witnessed early in the PKR election were replayed again in several incidents involving irregularities in the tallying of votes.

There were at least two yesterday involving Selangor divisions Puchong and Hulu Selangor, while allegations have emerged about ballot papers being passed around to bolster votes for certain candidates.

azlan According to an aide to a vice president candidate who requested anonymity, the incident in Puchong involved certain parties ‘grabbing' marked ballot papers.

He said that this was done when another vice president candidate became unsatisfied with the vote-tallying process.

It is understood that the tally was not favourable to this particular candidate and he had accused election officers of having a bias against him.

The verbal tussle between the election officer and those from the unhappy candidate's camp resulted in the police being called to calm the situation.

Police also had to escort the ballot boxes to the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya.

Ballot papers blocked

Election officers also got the brunt of dissatisfaction in Hulu Selangor, with about 100 people protesting against the polls itself yesterday.

According to media reports, the members had tried to block a vehicle carrying ballot papers from entering the polling centre in Kuala Kubu Bharu as they were unhappy that the division polls were not held at the same time as the central polls.

This resulted in a shouting match and shoving between the individuals and election officers.

The Ayer Hitam division in Johor today refused to hold polls despite being scheduled to do so today.

According to the division's sponsor Zaid Mohd Yusof, he had received a mobile text message at from an election officer at 1am to inform him that the polls should be conducted today.

However, the division has refused to comply claiming that the secretariat had "not followed procedure".

"We should have been informed earlier," said the division which is still pro-tem stage.

Ballot papers passed around

Malaysiakini also received information that ballot papers have been distributed outside of the confines of polling centres, and is believed to be used to bolster votes for certain candidates.

The source who declined to be named said that he had personally received several sheets, and that the person who had passed him the ballot papers is in possession of even more.

"These are not extra, you can verify the serial numbers with PKR. Anyway even if they are extras, shouldn't (the election committee) be more careful and ensure that the ballot papers are secured?" he asked.

He, however, said that he cannot prove if these leaked ballot papers have in fact been used to bolster votes.

Malaysiakini is still waiting for a response from PKR regarding the allegations.

Protest in Tropicana

Later today about 200 gathered at PKR headquarters in Tropicana protesting against the alleged lack of irregularities and lack of transparency and in PKR elections.

Jenapala protest outside PKR headquarters crowd They claimed that PKR de-facto leader Anwar Ibrahim has been upholding the interests of vice president Azmin Ali more than the members of the party.

Former deputy secretary general P. Jenapala said in his speech to the protestors that the grassroots could not accept the way the elections had been conducted and and are demanding that the polls be conducted transparently.

"This party talks about democratic processes in elections but are they walking the talk," he declared.

Kuala Langat polls cancelled again

Meanwhile, Bernama reported that the elections for the Kuala Langat division at the Dewan Rakan Muda today was cancelled.      

Despite the cancellation, an untoward incident happened where some party members were injured, resulting in them lodging a police report.      

Kuala Langat district police chief, Supt Nordin Manan, when contacted by Bernama , confirmed receiving the report.      

It was learnt that the Kuala Langat division was supposed to have held its MPP elections on Nov 13, but was postponed to Nov 20 and again to today.      

There was also some confusion on the venue of the election. The venue stated on a banner said it was at the Dewan Wawasan Kampung Medan.      

According to the MPP election supervisor for Kuala Langat, Zainol Ahmad, said today's election was cancelled because there was dissatisfaction from various quarters over the election process.      

He said he received instructions to call off the election at about 1.30pm to avoid any untoward incidents.      

Meanwhile, the MPP elections at the Tanjong Karang and Kuala Selangor divisions went smoothly.
