Defeated PKR Youth chief candidate Badrul Hisham Shaharin, widely known as Chegubard, has rejected the offer of the deputy secretary-general’s post by PKR and says he awaits the party’s action on the complaints over the recent party polls.

NONE He thanked party president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for the announcement of appointments made on Dec 18.

Badrul ( right ) said he has consulted friends and family and had finally decided he should not accept the appointment.

He conveyed his apologies to Wan Azizah and added that this decision was based on principle and that he would only acknowledge the outcome of the party’s 2010 polls after investigation into complaints of its wrongdoings is conducted and notified to him.

He added that he will continue to serve the party even without position.

“I love this party and because I love this party, I will continue to give my views ( tegur ); I love this country and because I love this country, I want to ensure that justice is serve as completely as possible ( keadilan menjadi sesempurna mungkin ) before we reach Putraja,” he said during a press conference held in Bukit Mertajam.

Badrul continued to insist that action be taken on the complaints about the polls and that he accepts the advice of secretary general Saifuddin Nasution who had asked him to be patient and not to do anything rash.

“But I also remind him that he had given assurance that the result of investigations (into the polls) would be known within two weeks...this promise was made during the party’s congress (in November),” he said.

Still confident about democracy

Badrul is however, still confident about democracy and transparency within the party but acknowledge that these virtues are lacking.

He added that  members must continue to pressure the party to continue practising democracy and transparency.

NONE But he advised his friends to be patient with the various criticisms and provocation as these voices do not wish for views to be expressed within the movement, but instead wanted them to act beyond their limits so that it would be easier to be booted out of the party.

“I insist on this not because of money or position, that is why I insist on rejecting all positions...even without posts, we can continue to contribute to the struggle, if we wish,” he said.

Meanwhile, Badrul continue to criticise the recent party polls, saying that those who are corrupt and liars should not be accepted, as practised by certain parties.

When the individual is pronounced a winner, all those who speak out will become silent after being offered various privileges.

“This is supposed to preserve the party’s stability by sweeping all the dirt and lies under the carpet,” he said.

“This should not happen in a reformasi party, instead the existence of Youths who continue to pressure for change must be viewed positively,” he added.

Badrul said despite receiving many calls, either those of encouragement or criticism, he would not be joining former Federal Territories chairperson Zaid Ibrahim's party - Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air (Kita).

“PKR and Anwar Ibrahim is still the best way for us to defeat Barisan Nasional,” he said.
