MCA president Chua Soi Lek denies his party has been outshone by the 1Malaysia NGO, which is said to have played an important role in helping BN to win a few by-elections recently.

He also brushed-off the charges that the MCA was jealous of the organisation.

NONE "We are not jealous or unhappy. It is not right (to feel jealous or unhappy)... the 1Malaysia NGO shows that there are a lot of wealthy people in Malaysia," he told the media after launching 1MCA Foundation’s 1Malaysia Community Alliance Foundation Service in Merlimau.

The mysterious NGO, which has made appearances at several by-elections, has been credited to be one of the causes for Pakatan Rakyat's numerous defeats.

1Malaysia-organised dinners and other activities attract huge crowds, compared with the other election campaign activities, including those of the BN's.

However, Chua said organising large activities would be useless and appear to be "less sincere" as these generally do not meet the purpose of interacting with the voters.

Suqiu demands aim to embarrass MCA

Asked about the demands made by 106 Chinese organisations in Malacca, Chua criticised their purpose, saying their action was just is “to embarrass MCA”.

"The content of Suqiu is nothing new, and MCA is solving it (the demands) gradually," he said.

The Malacca Chinese Education Progressive Association's Yang Ying Chong on Feb 26 presented a 'Melaka Merlimau by-election Suqiu', soon after the nomination of the by-election.

The community group demanded that vernacular, independent Chinese schools and community Islamic schools be provided the same benefits as national schools in terms  subsidies, student aid and certification for admission into public universities and the civil service.

They also demanded that the government reinstate the citizenship of the late activist Lim Lian Geok and acknowledge him as a national patriot.
