Reject leaders who are careless about spending the people's money, and are seen promoting their own selfish interests and causing the country to suffer huge losses.

This is the message to the people people from PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The BN administration, she said, did not care about the interests of the people. It had rejected the principles of a good governance and therefore, this administration should be ended.

NONE "It is our responsibility to save Malaysia from ending up bankrupt," she added in a statement today.

The recent charging of former transport minister Chan Kong Choy in court on three counts of cheating, Wan Azizah ( right ) said, showed how easily former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and his cabinet had been duped.

The cheating in connection with the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) scandal, she added, began during the term of fourth prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, for that was when another former transport minister, Dr Ling Liong Sik, was also accused of cheating in connection with the PKFZ scandal.

"Many of those in the cabinet then, who were said to be were cheated, are now in power, including Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy, Muhyiddin Yassin," she said.

"How can we allow such careless leaders, who are responsible for RM12 billion in losses, to continue to lead the country? What guarentee do we have that this will not recur, with the Najib administration seen arrogantly pushing ahead for the 100-storey tower project?"

Wan Azizah said it had also been pointed out that the costs for the three air-conditioned pedestrian walkways in the heart of the federal capital had also been unacceptable.

'Pakatan Rakyat is the alternative'

Calling on the people to rise and reject bad leaders, she said good governance, along with a just and fair government is the promise of the Pakatan Rakyat to all Malaysians.

The 13 th general election was looming and this would be best opportunity for change.

"Hence, the people must rise and reject leaders who are seen to be promoting self interests. Any administration that does not have the people's interests at heart, and the responsibility to good corporate governance, should end.

"It is the responsibility of all of us Malaysians to save Malaysia from heading towards poverty and becoming bankrupt by rejecting BN," she said.

On Monday, Chan was charged in a sessions court in Putrajaya with three counts of cheating Abdullah in connection with the PKFZ scandal.

On July 10 last year, Ling was also charged with misleading the cabinet, also in connection with the PKFZ project.

Earlier, several senior officials of Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd, the turnkey contractor for the building of the PKFZ, were also charged with criminal offences in connection with the scandal.
