PKR today alleged that its candidate for the Baleh seat, Bendindang Manja, was propositioned to pull out from contesting in the elections with an offer of money if he agreed.
PKR Supreme Council member, Dr Tan Kee Kwong, told
Malaysiakini
this evening that Manja (

“There he was propositioned by two police personnel who said they were from the Special Branch,” said Tan, who is also chairperson of the party’s discipline committee.
A former deputy minister in the BN government and MP for Segambut in the Federal Territory, Tan is in Sibu to help with the PKR campaign in the city and its outliers.
“When Manja asked the police officers on whose behalf they were making the offer, he had the reply that the cops were acting on the orders of ‘orang atasan’,” revealed Tan.
“Manja rejected the offer and returned to his campaign for the Baleh seat,” said Tan ( left ).
Manja, who was a long time member of Snap before he joined PKR in 2008, is in a straight fight with Parti Rakyat Sarawak president and state minister, Dr James Masing.
The last day for withdrawals of candidates who filed their papers on nomination day on April 6 was today. Candidates who withdraw can obtain a full refund of their deposits of RM10,000.
“You can deduce what the opposition is up against when you have incidents like this happening,” said Tan.
Asked if Manja had made a police report of this incident, Tan said he had not.
