The most vocal critic against the Penang government, Mohammed Ghani Abdul Jiman, and three others were nabbed by the police today after handing over a memorandum to the state assembly.

Georgetown OCPD Gan Kong Meng said his team arrested the group for illegal assembly.

NONE Mohammed Ghani ( right ), who came with about 10 other supporters, managed to hand over the memorandum to Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng’s information officer Zuliana Aziz, who met him at the gate.

However, his memorandum was addressed to speaker Abdul Halim Hussein, Yang di-Pertua Negeri Abdul Rahman Abbas and Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

“I am not sending the memo to Lim as I have lost faith in him,” said Mohammed Ghani.

Mohammed Ghani, however, attempted to enter the state assembly compound, and when the gates were closed to him, he tried to climb it.

He then tried to hold  a press conference across the road from the state assembly building, but failed to do so as the police carted him away.

NONE In the police truck, Mohammed Ghani expressed his anger, shouting words like “All Penang assemblypersons are sissies”; and offered to buy them skirts.

“I am a Malaysian citizen, why am I not allowed in the state assembly,” he shouted, showing his identity card to the media.

His memorandum carried about ten points over grievances allegedly involving eviction and discrimination towards Malay traders committed by the state government.

When contacted later this afternoon, Mohammed Ghani said he was still at the police station.

"I am well...the police is treating me very well. They gave me food and drinks,,,I am treated better here than I was outside," he told Malaysiakini .

He said the police was still taking his down his statement, and is not certain what will happen to him or the others who were arrested with him.

NONE "I may have to stay the night," he added.

Mohammed Ghani, who heads the NGO called ‘Suara Anak-Anak Malaysia’ has been consistently criticising the state government over its treatment of Malay traders and the community.

He had earlier targeted Komtar assemblyperson Ng Wei Aik for allegedly driving him out of business when the latter implemented a renovation project at Komtar’s third floor.

His anger was so intense that Mohammed Ghani sent a coffin to Ng’s house, prompting the latter to lodge a police report against him.

Mohammed Ghani’s vendetta against the state government and particularly Ng begun during Ramadhan last year, where several traders were not allowed to do business as they had allegedly not settled their rental payment for their booths.
