As far as the political bureau and central leadership council of PKR are concerned, the party has been paying its rent for the building in  Tropicana, Damansara, where the party headquarters is located.

pkr headquarters in tropicana As such, PKR chief of strategy Rafizi Ramli said, there is no truth in a media report yesterday that the party has not been paying rent for 30 months.

"I am not privy to the (tenancy agreement), but as far as we are concerned, there has never been any discussion of this... (PKR) has been fulfilling its obligation as per the tenancy agreement,” Rafizi said.

"We were not aware of (the problems between the bank and the landlord) until we got the letter from the bank.. if we have not been paying, it would have been the subject of discussion, just like how we are almost constantly discussing our options now.”

It was reported last week that the building would be auctioned off on June 9 by Affin Bank, following the landlord's failure to service the bank loan on the building.

PKR leaders have insisted that the party has promptly paid the monthly rental of RM20,000, as stated in the agreement signed in 2008, although party insiders quoted in the Free Malaysia Today report yesterday disputed this.  

When contacted, PKR treasurer William Leong refused to confirm or deny the FMT report, saying that he did "not want to reply to speculation".

However, Leong said, if there was indeed a breach of contract between the landlord and PKR, it would have been reasonable to expect action from the former within three months.

"We have an agreement but I will not discuss this private contract in public, except to say that no action has been taken by the landlord until this day," he added.
