Deputy inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said today the police force is no longer interested in negotiating or discussing with the leaders of the three separate July 9 rallies planned by Bersih 2.0, Umno Youth or Perkasa.

Khalid again reiterated that those who intend to take part in the event should expect action against them under the Police Act.

According to Bernama , he also warned the police might detain participants under the Internal Security Act along with the possibility the organisers of the scheduled rally would be arrested, prior to July 9.

azlan He said despite explanation and persuasion during meetings with the proponents of the rallies, it was obvious the police approach had failed.

"We told them of our fears, the anxiety of the business community, tourist operators and the public... but they seemed bent on going ahead with it," he was quoted as saying.

His statement comes a day after Bersih 2.0 chief S Ambiga met with inspector-general of police Ismail Omar to ask the police to mark out the route for their march to hand over their memorandum on electoral reform to the King at Istana Negara.

The Bersih 2.0 organisers, who had hoped to meet with Ismail again next week, also sought police assistance to keep the event safe.

Umno Youth and Perkasa, which are planning counter-rallies on the same day, have also met with the police.

All three groups have said that they intend to keep their rallies peaceful.

During a press conference at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman, Khalid said the police would also take action under Section 27(5) of the Police Act against those wearing T-shirts which categorically express support for the rally, for conspiring to instigate.

Up till yesterday, the deputy inspector-general of police said the police had received 2,136 reports nationwide, objecting to the rally, while 115 people linked to it were detained.
