Two non-governmental organisations today submitted a memorandum to the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia (Suhakam) in appreciation of the police handling of the illegal gathering on July 9.

bersih rally petaling street 090711 The Malaysian Muslim People's Coalition (IRIMM) and the Muslim Consumers Association (PPIM) handed over the memorandum to Suhakam commissioner Mahmood Zuhdi at the Suhakam office, Kuala Lumpur.

"The good deed of the police in controlling the situation succeeded in averting untoward incidents," IRIMM secretary-general Thajudeen Mohideen told reporters after handing over the memorandum to Mahmood.

He also said that allegations that the police had used force against the participants of the rally were not relevant.
