The Selangor government today announced a RM1 million grant to support anti-election fraud activities.

NONE Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim said in a statement that the fund was approved by the state executive council today, following complaints of irregularities in the electoral roll.

"The Exco meeting today agreed to set up a fund to support the filing of protests at the Election Commission on any irregularities in the electoral rolls," Khalid said.

He said the grant would be open to members of the public, and would only be for complaints against electoral rolls for constituencies in Selangor.

Elaborating on this at a post-exco meeting press conference today, exco member Ronnie Liu said that the grant wais aimed to offset the cost of the protests.

The Election Commission currently charges RM10 per name, and if a protest is rejected a complainant can be charged RM150 per complaint.

"The state will bear the RM10 cost but not the RM150 penalty," he said.

Liu said Selangor would not collaborate with NGOs or individuals in detecting irregularities and lodging complaints.
