Lim Kit Siang has slammed Selangor exco member Hasan Ali’s defence of the Selangor Islamic Department (Jais) raid on Damansara Utama Methodist Church (DUMC) on Wednesday night as an act of "breaking ranks" with the state government.

ops scorpene dinner 220711 kit siang The DAP supremo ( left ) said this was especially so following Mentri Besar Khalid Ibrahim’s expression of regret over the raid and his assurances.

"What is a matter of concern and must be viewed seriously is the public defence of the Jais action by the state executive councillor Hasan Ali issued shortly after Khalid’s statement expressing regret for the raid and asking Jais to submit a full report on the incident – as it is an act of breaking ranks in the Selangor state government," said Lim in a statement this morning.

Jais' gatecrashing of a multiracial dinner... is most deplorable as it is most detrimental to efforts to build an open, tolerant and harmonious plural Malaysian society," said Lim, commending Khalid's "swift response" on the matter.

pkr taman ehsan selayang ceramah 020810 hasan ali Yesterday Hasan ( right ) had defended Jais' actions saying there was evidence of proselytisation, and that 12 Muslims had participated in the dinner at Damansara Utama Methodist Church.

His statement came just moments after Khalid had expressed his regret over the incident and assured that the state upholds religious freedom.

Khalid said that he had already spoken to senior pastor Daniel Ho of DUMC and that he would follow up with Ho after reviewing Jais' report on the incident.

Jais ‘incompetent’

Meanwhile Gerakah Youth sec-gen Dominic Lau slammed Jais actions as “highly inconsiderate, insensitive and disrespectful” and was proof of Jais’ “incompetence”.

“Clearly, Jais had not been sensitive enough when dealing with matters related to religion for it is a common sense that religious issues are sensitive issues in this country.

"What is more disappointing is that Jais was unable to produce proof of complaint when raiding the dinner, this shows how incompetent and barbaric the organisation is," said Lau in a statement.

NONE Lau also slammed the lack of consistency within the Selangor government on the issue as Hasan’s statement had shown.

“How are they (Selangor government) going to convince the people of Selangor that Pakatan Rakyat is united and is fighting for freedom of assembly and freedom of religion?

"What is the duty of DAP as a senior partner of Pakatan Rakyat government in Selangor?” asked Lau.

The DAP Youth leader also criticised the state government for being unable to “control” Jais, asking if Selangor was being subjected to a hidden agenda of “Islamisation”.

MCA chief fires more salvos at DAP

DAP, however, was scathingly attacked by MCA president Chua Soi Lek in a statement today, with Chua condemning its leaders "strange silence" for the first 24 hours since the Wednesday night incident.

NONE "(DAP) are notoriously famous for calling on Barisan Nasional leaders to resign over the most flimsiest incident. They are also consistently famous for calling for the setting up of the Royal Commission of Inquiry over every incident...

"Why have they not asked for the resignation of Hasan Ali?" he asked.

In his line of fire was Selangor senior exco member and Selangor DAP chairperson Teresa Kok -a Christian - who Chua accused of lacking courage for not letting "a single squeak" against Hasan.

"If the DAP cannot be trusted upon to speak up against Jais, in particular PAS, then there is no hope for its followers and supporters.

"Where is their sense of justice and accountability which they so proudly proclaimed?" he asked cuttingly.
