'Don't waste our time and hoodwink the rakyat with the PSC. Just implement the reforms stipulated by Bersih 2.0 and Suhakam. Period.'
'Polls panel void if Parliament is dissolved'
DannyLoHH: If Abdullah Ahmad Badawi is bad for his sleeping on the job and constant flip-flopping, Najib is worse for his constant flip-flopping and pussyfooting around his deputy.
What is the point of forming the parliamentary select committee (PSC) if it were to be made lame by the declaration of a general election and before the tasks of electoral reform are completed? This PSC is a complete waste of time, energy and money.
Umno-BN is obviously not sincere and not interested in real electoral reform. All Malaysians should come out and vote this corrupt regime out.
We need to be vigilant against electoral fraud as well, we must also volunteer to monitor the election process to deny Umno-BN's chances of rigging the election.
Ferdtan: The rakyat once again are being taken for a ride by the government with regard to the inconsequential forming of the PSC.
We demand a royal commission which should include Bersih's chief Ambiga Sreenevasan. To be effective, the timeline of the RCI should be broken into three stages: immediate (three months period), intermediate (from three months to a year) and the final stage (up to the RCI to decide).
If the BN government is not interested, then Bersih 2.0, with the support of Pakatan Rakyat, should petition to our Agong for one. There is no harm trying - who knows; the Agong may have the same idea.
Multi Racial: Now the truth is finally out. BN established the select panel to be seen as doing something, but they knew and have decided from the start that they have no intention of doing anything.
Why waste public funds if the panel's recommendations may not be implemented?
The first thing that needs to be agreed on this select panel is to have its findings implemented before the next GE. If this cannot be agreed upon, then abandon it. We don't want to be fool by BN again.
Luang: This is the same kind of ‘promise' Najib has given before - first permitting the use of a stadium for Bersih 2.0, and now the same fate will befall PSC.
Armageddon: Minister in the PM's Department Nazri Abdul Aziz said, "Pakatan is afraid now because previously they thought the government was scared to reform the electoral system."
The only thing we are afraid of now is the cheating in the electoral system will get worse. BN will take advantage of this exercise and do the opposite of the original intention. So, not having DAP participation will make things easier for Nazri.
FellowMalaysian: I am sick to the core reading about these childish games the Umno-led BN government is playing.
I also failed to comprehend why Najib and his cohorts are so adamant in insisting that they should not be pushed to agree to holding the GE13 only after the recommendations of PSC has been properly implemented.
This would mean that the EC would be engaging the electoral process in the coming GE13 much in the same manner as what they have been doing the past 53 years; i.e. a deficient system devoid of effective measures in curbing and controlling abuses in electoral rolls and ensuring a free and fair election.
In short, Najib has shown little commitment and seriousness in implementing this PSC as much as he denies it in the papers.
Siapa Raja: The whole idea of forming the PSC is to ensure that there the proposals that were brought forth by Bersih 2.0 are implemented before the 13th general election.
If the GE is called before the PSC can sit to redefine and tie up all loose ends, then the government is not sincere about the setting up of the committee in the first instance. Already now we have too many outstanding issues that are long pending, especially the postal votes, discrepancies at NRD (National Registration Departmen) record as well as the phantom voters.
Therefore I strongly suggest that the dissolving of the Parliament should, and must be, done only after the PSC committee has come out with an improved electoral system.
Quigonbond: Deputy speaker Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar is whacking one more nail in BN coffin. Taking one year to come out with proposals of reform simply means two things.
First, BN has one more year to manipulate the electoral roll and put in place electoral fraud mechanisms. Second, the problem is so serious that proposals of reform can only come out in a year.
Either way, it shows BN is complicit in electoral fraud. No more sideshow. It is time for Bersih 3.0.
SusahKes: Perhaps the best thing to do would be for Pakatan to boycott the PSC. After all, why participate in a game which you know you would lose?
Remember the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) that came out of the re-structuring the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA)? Weren't we all asked to support what the government was doing at that time and to give it a chance?
Victor Johan: Don't waste time and hoodwink the rakyat. Just implement the reforms stipulated by Bersih 2.0 and Suhakam. Period.
