Politicians will no longer be given accreditation to deliver ceramah at all the 2,081 surau and 380 mosques in Selangor, the state's Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) director Marzuki Hussin said today.

"Politicians given the accreditation previously cannot renew it upon expiry and they will no longer be allowed to give ceramah at all the surau and mosques in the state," he said.

Speaking to reporters at his office in Shah Alam, Marzuki said the prohibition against politicians giving ceramah at the mosques and surau in Selangor was in compliance with the directive from the sultan of Selangor through a circular dated June 22.

He said Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah was against the issuance of accreditation to all politicians to deliver ceramah at all surau and mosques in Selangor.

Marzuki said those violating the directive (against giving ceramah without accreditation) would be charged under Section 119 (1) of the Jais Administration Enactment, where offenders can be fined up to RM3,000, jailed for two years or both.
