Two hundred and forty BN state assemblypersons began their three-day retreat in Kuala Selangor today to get closer to the people and help them solve their problems.

The Selangor retreat is the third for BN assemblypersons after the retreats in Perak in 2006 and Pahang in 2008.

Chairman of the national BN assemblypersons club Nadzri Ismail said that a family adoption programme was being introduced this time round covering 45 of the 56 state constituencies in Selangor.

He told reporters that the programme would involve 150 assemblypersons, including former menteris besar, who will stay with their adopted families.

Nadzri, who is the state assemblyman for Manjol in Perak, said the programme was to better understand the people and their problems and forge stronger ties between the elected and the electorate.

"We will visit as many houses as possible in our mission to help the people and improve their lot," he said.

Nadzri said the families to be adopted had been chosen without regard to their political affiliation.

The retreat will be launched by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in the compound of the Tesco supermarket in Kuala Selangor town tomorrow night.

Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin will close it at SMK Meru in Kapar, Klang.
