The opposition will embark on their pre-election campaign next month, kicking off on Dec 4 with a rally at Stadium Melawati in Shah Alam, said its leader, Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said the rally will initiate its campaign to address key problems and issues faced by the people.

He said that Pakatan Rakyat, in its presidential council meeting held in Parliament today, has resolved to send its top guns to the ground.

“We have been ready for some time, that is why we are launching the Dec 4 event. Most of the seat negotiations are already done,” said the PKR de facto leader.

With speculations of the general election being called in the first quarter of next year although it is not due until 2013, parties from both sides of the political divide are heightening measures to reach out to the rakyat.

“We will go to the people with our stand on the Bersih memorandum, among others, and the our MPs will raise issues that concern the rakyat,” he said, flanked by DAP’s parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang and PAS vice-president Mahfuz Omar.

Mahfuz added that the move is to get going on Pakatan’s efforts to get closer to the grassroots.

“The secretariat will also be organising events to send top leaders to each state to understand local issues,” he said.

Anwar added that only a few seats are left unresolved but the respective state leaders have been tasked to settle the matter.
