The Election Commission (EC)’s preparations for the 13th general election are at an early stage but progressing smoothly, according to its chairperson Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

“We are preparing very early. There are still many stages. At this stage, we are appointing some of the Returning Officers (ROs) and Assistant Returning Officers (AROs).

“As for the planning, on what to do next and so on... we already have begun,” he told reporters in Port Dickson today after briefing 50 ROs and AROs for Negri Sembilan.

He said the second stage would involve logistics such as ballot boxes and forms as well as transportation like helicopters, planes, boats and cars.

“This preparations are necessary because we do not want to be caught unprepared when Parliament is dissolved,” he said.

He said the EC would introduce some new elements in the next election with regard to nomination and campaign material, among others, and that these matters had been raised at the special select committee level for approval.
