Polls panel recommends RCI for Project IC

Bender: Knowing that Project IC was allegedly the brainchild of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, I doubt any measures taken will be effective or capable of doing any justice.

Can we expect, as a hypothesis - if the suggested RCI (royal commission of inquiry) materialises - that justice will prevail as a result?

Remember, Project IC equals treason. Treason begets the harshest of punishments - even death by firing squad cannot do justice for such heinous crime.

Now, can we imagine, hypothetically that is, the master of Project IC standing in front of a firing squad, to be sentenced for his crime against the nation? Not in a million years, not in this country.

So, my point is: why bother with the RCI in the first place? It seems to me that lately RCI is the answer to all our nation's problem. Yet we never see anything worth rejoicing coming from RCI all this while.

Go4it: Don't just recommend, but demand for a RCI on Project IC to be instituted. The parliamentary select committee (PSC) should have the power to do that.

The increase of voters in Sabah since 2004 is ridiculously abnormal and unbelievable. Sabah, once one of the richest states in Malaysia, is now among poorest. Yet the major partner in the ruling government does not want to have the RCI.

Have they something to be afraid of?

My THOR: What is the use of recommending a RCI for Project IC? It will end up like other RCIs where wrongdoers escape punishment and justice is forsaken at the expense of the people.

Call off the RCI and start treason charges against all those involved. Let justice takes its course for once, to prove that Umno's government is serious about its transformation policy.

Longjaafar: The government does not have to agree to the recommendation, thus it is very likely that there will be no RCI, unless Umno says "yes".

L Joy: Obviously this chairman of the PSC has been allowed by the Umno powers to allow for a RCI proposal in its interim findings.

But like all other RCIs that we have seen and heard, it will work for a finding that will absolve the Umno/BN/National Registration Department/Election Commission, etc, of any wrongdoing and that will officially close the chapter on this IC scam.

Nothing from anyone, including eyewitnesses and confirmation from former NRD (National Registration Department) staff will, be considered as being the truth as far as the RCI is concerned.

For all RCIs, the only truth is that the BN government is faultless, period.

Nil: Mimos Berhad, a technology agency under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, to conduct the audit? It is not independent enough.

The auditor should not be connected with the government in any way - definitely not the ministries nor agencies nor the NGOs.

This should be an investigative audit, and should be done by an international firm of auditors from outside Malaysia.

Swipenter: RCI for Project IC? You are asking Umno to commit harakiri. No way Umno would ever agree to it unless they are kicked out of Putrajaya.

Pua: Which part of 'low-cost' doesn't MAHB get?

Kosongcafe: Cost overruns seem like standard operating procedure for government projects. First get the approval based on a reasonable sum, then change later, with variation orders. The bigger the contracts, the bigger the commissions.

Besides economists, we need financial controllers who can cut costs instead of increasing costs to benefit themselves at the expense of the company and country.

A low-cost airport built like KLIA (Kuala Lumpur International Airport) is a far cry from the LCCT (Low-cost Carrier Terminal), which is really basic... even some Tesco supermarkets look better.

With MAHB (Malaysia Airports Bhd) spending top money (RM3.9 billion) to build a low-cost terminal, even AirAsia chief executive Tony Fernandes cannot reduce costs for passengers of his airlines.

Haji Kamdani: Where are the Umno leaders who blamed AirAsia for increasing its charges. Why not train your guns at MAHB?

Macham2: Currently the airport fee of the budget terminal is already more expensive than some air tickets. With this expensive KLIA2 and cost overruns, our budget travel will be hijacked.

Geronimo: Why the need for this when our current KLIA looks like a ghost airport? Perhaps the Transport Ministry can give us a list of international airlines that are now plying in and out of KLIA.

Wfworker: This could be its last gravy train as far as the MAHB is concerned. They may never get a chance to construct any more airports. That's the reason for the high cost of the low-cost airport.
